FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Because we are often asked many common questions about STEM CELL THERAPY, we are hoping to address your concerns. We also wish to clarify any misconceptions about the many claims that Stem Cell can and cannot do. Our professionals are (themselves) avid studients of this science constantly researching the most current information so if you have any special or additional questions not covered in this section, contact us anytime at: appt@celltherapycenterny.com.

WHAT IS STEM CELL THERAPY?

Stem cell therapy attempts to harness the body’s own healing potential by isolating stem cells from one location of the body (fat tissue or bone marrow) and relocating them to an area of disease, injury or inflammation. The main function of stem cells is to maintain and repair tissue. Stem cell therapy enhances this natural function by getting stem cells more directly to an area of need within the body.

WHAT CONDITIONS ARE BEING TREATED BY STEM CELL THERAPY?

Stem cells have the unique attribute to form many different types of tissue including bone, cartilage, and muscle. They are naturally anti-inflammatory and can therefore help in the body’s own healing process and potentially reverse the effects of many diseases. Some of the conditions currently being studied include arthritis, sports-related injuries, COPD, auto-immune diseases such as Crohn’s disease, neurological disorders such as MS and Parkinson’s, spinal cord injuries, autism, and critical limb ischemia.

HOW IS STEM CELL THERAPY PERFORMED?

Our clinic will perform outpatient procedures using a process in which we isolate a patient’s own stem cells from either their own adipose fat tissue or bone marrow. Approximately 80% of the patients we treat will receive a tumescent liposuction procedure under local anesthetic with standard Klein solution. During the mini-lipo procedure less than 120 cc’s of fat will be removed. The fat will be centrifuged to isolate stem cells which will immediately be delivered back to the same patient. The cells may be delivered as a joint injection, an iv, intrathecally or intramuscularly. The remaining patients (approximately 20% of those treated) will receive a bone marrow aspiration treatment, also under local anesthetic, in which less than 60 cc’s of bone marrow will be removed. The bone marrow will be centrifuged to isolate stem cells which will immediately be delivered back to the same patient. The cells may be delivered as a joint injection, an iv, intrathecally or intramuscularly. In both cases we will isolate the patient’s own stem cells from the fat tissue or bone marrow collected using a sterile procedure and we will immediately inject those stem cells back into the patient. The entire process takes under 3 hours in most cases.

WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS?

It is important to note that we are treating patients with their own adult stem cells, therefore each treatment and response is unique to that patient. No guarantee can be made of what results will be achieved or how soon results can be felt. However, many patients report that they begin to experience results within a week with fuller effects felt within 4 to 8 weeks. In cases where the condition being treated is more severe the patient may notice results over a longer timeframe, and in some cases seeing results in the 6-9 month timeframe is possible.

HOW LONG WILL MY RECOVERY TAKE?

Our U.S. Stem Cell Clinic procedure is minimally invasive and patients walk out within 3 hours in most cases. As a result recovery time is very quick. Many patients will experience soreness for a couple days to a week, but there are usually no restrictions regarding resuming normal activity. • DOES HEALTH INSURANCE COVER THE COST OF THIS PROCEDURE? No, health insurance in the U.S. does not currently cover costs associated with our U.S. Stem Cell Clinic procedure. • IS THIS PROCEDURE FDA APPROVED? No it is not; however our procedure falls under the category of physician’s practice of medicine, wherein the physician and patient are free to consider their chosen course of treatment. Our procedure is compliant within the guidelines listed in the FDA Code of Federal Regulations 21 Part 1271. We meet FDA guidelines by providing a same-day procedure done entirely in clinic with only minimal manipulation of a patient’s own cells which are then immediately delivered back to that patient.

ARE THERE ANY KNOWN SIDE EFFECTS TO ADULT STEM CELL THERAPY?

Side effects are typically minimal and may include minor pain and irritation at the injection site. Since we are using a patient’s own stem cells, chances of immune system rejection are extremely low. Extensive research and testing using adult stem cells is ongoing worldwide, and to our knowledge there have been no reported instances of “serious adverse events” in any studies.

ARE THERE ANY DIETARY RESTRICTIONS OR RECOMMENDED NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS?

Our staff will go over recommended guidelines regarding diet and nutrition.

ARE THERE ANY MORAL OR ETHICAL ISSUES CONCERNING THESE TREATMENTS?

Our U.S. Stem Cell Clinic procedure uses a patient’s own stem cells derived from their own adipose fat tissue or bone marrow. We do not perform any procedures or undertake any research using embryonic stem cells, which is where you will see the most intense ethical scrutiny.

STEM CELL THERAPY FOR THE TREATMENT OF ARTHRITIS

By: Dr. Andrew J. Rochman

Arthritis is a condition that ails millions of Americans today. The most common mode of treatment for arthritis has been joint replacement. However, joint replacement surgeries are not a permanent solution and tend to wear out after 15 years. Scientists have been working to find a cure for arthritis using stem cells. This is a new mode of therapy that is being developed to cure two main types of arthritis: osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Stem cells taken from the patient’s bone marrow or fat tissue are grown inside the laboratory under the prescribed condition. They are then reinjected in the body as a way of treating arthritis.

Cellular Therapies of New York (CTNY) is founded on the main principle belief that the quality of life for our patients can be improved through the implementation of cellular regeneration of stem cell sciences. We are dedicated to providing safe and effective stem cell treatments for our patients at our point-of-care facilities.
